Why Are We So Opinionated?
This isn’t strictly related to the gaming community… but in light of this weekend’s event involving Marcus Beer and Phil Fish it feels like it’s worth discussing.
Tidbits
Yes, I am still alive in my nerdcave. This is going to be a very quick run-down of some random morsels of progress information.
Legend of Iya
All y’all know that I’m in heart with delicious pixel art. Andrew “darkfalzx” Bado decided as a kid that he wanted to create video games, and has been working hard ever since to make that a reality. He’s been working professionally as a pixel artist for years, and in his spare time has been working to bring his own beautiful creation, Legend of Iya, to life. His kickstarter campaign is live right now, and he needs your help.
Ouya Developers Express Themselves
Ouya has announced that they plan on helping to kickstart indie devs by matching successful funding that they acquire through upcoming Kickstarter campaigns. But just what does it mean to apply for these funds?
Cell Shading in Photoshop for Illustration
I’ve been getting back into the groove of hand-drawn art the past couple of weeks. While I was confident to crack out the old 20068 Col-Erase pencil for some sketching, followed up with some inking on a separate sheet of paper… I didn’t feel that I was going to get the coloring right first try so I turned to Photoshop.
Space Cruise Chords
Ever play that maddingly addictive indie game called FTL? Not to sound like a shill or anything, but with it on sale right now through both Amazon and Steam, you don’t have much excuse for missing it. It’s a deceptively tough game with a great sounding score. Ben Prunty, composer of the FTL Soundtrack has recently discussed his process on his personal blog.
Happy 30th Birthday to the Famicom!
Being both Canadian, and younger than the Famicom, neither Matt nor I can share any first hand experience on the triumphant original release of the Famicom on 15 July 1983. I like to think that it just wasn’t worth being born until after Nintendo had worked a little bit of magic into the world.
Getting the Gang Together
Earlier in the week, I linked to the Mega Man 25th Anniversary Art book. I absolutely love the old artwork that was done for NES era games. Legend of Zelda, Mario Bros, Mega Man, Metroid… these were games that all came with boxes, and booklets, and some charming hand drawn art that made everything fun.
Rockman 25th Anniversary Art Book
The past couple of days I’ve seen articles discussing the Mega Man 25th Anniversary Art book which will be “premiering” at the San Diego Comicon. That’s coo’. If you’re looking for a limited edition hardcover with foil printing on the cover, that’s probably going to be a great item to pick up.
Balance and Ruin
Balance and Ruin is a free, five disc album (74 tracks) of fan made music in tribute to Square(-Enix)’s masterpiece Final Fantasy VI. It was released last week, on Canada Day, but clearly I couldn’t bring that to your attention until after I let you calm down from the cover of O Canada that I crafted from the fabric of space-time. Time, more so than space.
