E3 2013 Reaction To The Games
I’ve recently been more of a casual gamer… buying a handful of games a year and only playing most of them (if I’m lucky). In the past year I’ve taken a larger interest in keeping up with the news as I feel that it’s somehow important now that I’m making games. Previously, I was somehow charmed into the notion that PAX is better than E3 since PAX is for “the people”, while E3 is for “the press”. And for booth babes. But here’s a look at this year’s E3.
IGDA San Francisco
I’ve definitely gravitated toward the indie game community a lot in the past year. Honestly, it was something that I was barely even aware of before I started working on a game with Matt, but once I got invested in it, I was hooked. I mentioned the Full Indie Summit last week, which is part of the Vancouver scene and made my time there awesome. This time I want to mention the IGDA here in San Francisco.
Piecing People Together
Wow, two weeks goes by fast. Lots of paperwork and foolishness keeping me busy this last half month, but some work did get done. I had gone over some random implementation details last time and gave a quick overview of what was coming.
Repair Her Armor
I’m sure you’re familiar with the Hawk-Eye Initiative by now, right? That wonderful little tumblr page that helps to illustrate the silliness of the Comic Book industry? Well it was only a matter of time before the video game industry was called out for its own shenanigans.
Full Indie Summit
One rad part about my brief (and Matt’s continual) time in Vancouver, is that there is a fantastic community there called “Full Indie” who organize monthly meet-ups on meetup.com. If you’re an indie dev in Vancouver area, I’d definitely recommend you check them out. For those of you who aren’t in Vancouver (or since, there’s only like five of you out there able to travel back in time, this is good news even if you are in Vancouver): The organizers have released video from the Full Indie Summit that took place back in April!
Changing Things Up
We’ve said from the very start that we hope to be able to include a level of character customization in Super Hematoma that will help add some depth to the multiplayer experience. We’re still not 100% sure how many people will be playing simultaneously in any given match, but we’re hoping it will be a lot. Therefore, we want to provide lots of options to choose from.
Making the Most of Your Time
I just finished reading a fantastic article over at Polygon that features the guys (Jeff Agala and Jamie Cheng) over at Klei Entertainment discussing their stance on the work/life balance. This is a subject that I wish more CEO’s, producers, directors, or… I don’t know… whoever is responsible for bidding time on film and games would take the time to consider more seriously.
Some Great Tunes
While looking around for some cool stuff to rave about today, I came across the fact that on May 28th, it will be the 20th anniversary of the Super Mario Bros Movie. So there’s that… uh… influential part of my childhood… but… uh… I don’t think there’s much to say about that. Pretty much the only cool thing about that was the product placement and the Joe Satriani inclusion in the soundtrack.
Grubby Details
Yo’zzz everybody.
It’s going to be a very straight progress report this time.
There’s a lot of new stuff brewing under the hood, a lot of which was hinted at in the last post. Let the excitement begin Read More >
Xbox!!!!!!!11111one!
So back on February 20th I decided to do a minute-by-minute update of the Playstation Meeting that was held to announce the Playstation 4. I figured that since yesterday was a similar reveal for the next generation of Xbox, that I’d do the same thing.
